Two Thanksgiving Lunches

Thanksgiving Day at the Masseys

Thanksgiving Day with the Masseys was like old home week. They haven’t sold their house yet, so we all gathered at the “resort” where we stayed with them when we were in between houses and “homeless.”

The meal was outstanding, and Sara-Alison had done most of the preparation, because her mom had the flu earlier in the week. Sara-Alison did a fantastic job, so when her contributions were added to her dad’s deep fried turkeys, the whole Thanksgiving meal was a huge hit!

Jennifer and Fred had invited their son and daughter-in-law (baby due in a month!), Sara-Alison’s boyfriend and his dog Maggie, another lonely couple from our church, Fred’s sister, and us. It was a delightful group of people. Thanks for including us in your ‘family” Thanksgiving, J& F!

Thanksgiving Friday Lunch with More Family and Friends

Today we had another Thanksgiving meal with all of our family that could come AND Brandi’s family, which we claim as our own family anyway.  We really missed the ones who were not available to join us. It would be so much fun for all of us to get together. Hopefully, we can do that another time. This was nice, though.

Everybody brought a dish or two, and we ended up with lots of food for 20 for our second Thanksgiving Lunch! Kyle and Victoria’s folding table saved the day to provide enough table spaces for everyone. Thankfully, it was also a lovely day outside, and we spent some quality time outside, too. We really enjoyed sharing this wonderful potluck meal with everyone in our new town home.

Thanks, all of you, for joining us!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Thanksgiving Day
November 28, 2013

We wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving Day! We are especially thankful for our families and friends. You are all very close to our hearts, and we would love to see you in our new home in Decatur asap. It is a lovely location, and the town is perfect for us. Peter has done wonderful things making the house perfect for us, too. You’ll see when you visit here. Thanks, Peter!

Yesterday, we had a very special visit with Cati and Arne’s family. As you can see, the milk was a big hit with Hugo. Harldur was “indisposed” while we were taking pictures. I was sorry there were no pictures of him, but it was for a good reason…if you know what I mean!

Today, we have an invitation from our dear friends the Masseys to share Thanksgiving Day with them at “the resort!” We are expecting a beautiful day and meal with great friends.

We look forward to Thanksgiving Lunch on Friday at our house with 20 of family and friends. San Francisco, Charleston, Nashville, Carrollton, Atlanta and Decatur will be represented. Thanks for the extra table, Kyle and Victoria!

Love, hugs and kisses to all,

Colleen

Navia, Jacob, Aunt Jill, Library

US Journal

Hugo and Navia

Our grandson Hugo really enjoyed his time spent with Uncle Nick’s dog Navia. They became best friends, and they shook on it! It was fun to get some time with Nick and Amanda, too.

Jacob, the Italian

My nephew Jacob participated in International Day at his school by dressing up as an Italian soccer player. His great Uncle Peter gave him the suggestion after Jacob decided that he wanted to do something Italian. We really like using the soccer ball that Uncle Nick gave you with the sun glasses and Italia tshirt…nice touch!

Early Thanksgiving with Aunt Jill

Since Aunt Jill was not going to be here for our Thanksgiving Lunch on Friday, we decided to have a brunch with all of the brothers and sisters last weekend. As you can see in the pictures, we had a great time talking with each other and playing with the little boys. I’m so glad we had a chance for all of us to get together!

The Library’s Statue

Our grandsons Harldur and Hugo had a great time visiting the library with their dad and me. The first thing they saw was this wonderful, giant statue made of colored paper. The boys were insistent that the yellow part at the top was an ice cream cone. They loved it, and the books about trucks, trains and airplanes were hits, too!

What a lovely Thanksgiving we are having. We hope that all of you enjoy yours, too.

Moving In/My Birthday/Dynamic IKEA Duo

Moving In/My Birthday/KEA Rules!

Moving day was definitely one to be remembered! The movers moved all of our stuff from the storage unit to our new townhouse, and at the end of the day, Kyle and Victoria showed up at the house with my birthday supper, complete with birthday hats and birthday cupcakes. Thanks, you two, that was a huge success with us!

Our dear friend Hans will forever be remembered as one of the Dynamic IKEA Duo! After most of our renovations were complete, Peter had several items delivered from IKEA; and Peter and Hans worked for 2 days to complete the construction of all of those items. Don’t they look smashing? I’m really proud of your work, Hans and Peter. Our house looks so fresh! Thanks so very much!

A Morning with Sebastian

A Morning Playing with Sebastian

How much fun can 3 little boys have? When Sebastian met Hugo and HC, they all knew immediately that they would be great friends. Everybody liked to be outside or playing together inside. Everybody was game to do new things and meet new people. Our two grandsons had a super morning with their new friend Sebastian! The pictures tell the whole story!

This idea came up when we needed a pack ‘n play for Hugo. Peter went next door to ask Patricia if she knew anyone who had one. Before we all knew it, we had borrowed her pack ‘n play and she had free babysitting while she needed to work on her 2 papers that were due in the classes she is taking. I hope we can spend lots more time with Sebastian while Hugo and Harldur are here! We like having him around, and his mom studies best when he is having fun next door.

Thanks, Patricia! We consider it a perfect deal all around! That’s what makes good neighbors, right?

AFTERNOON IN THE COUNTRY AT SERENBE, ROCKETTES

US Journal

AFTERNOON IN THE COUNTRY

I told you I would send pictures of Serenbe’s great  food event Afternoon in the Country! It was fantastic! A live band was playing. There was a silent auction going on, including wonderful vacations, special dinners for several people at some of the restaurants that participated in the event…anyone can write their bid for an event, and at 3:30, the bidding stopped. The person who had the highest bid for any item would get that item for that price. Peter and I lost the bid on about 5 items, but we won the bid for about 5 more. We decided that it was a great time to shop for Christmas!!!

The foods at Afternoon in the County were diverse, and all were extremely creative and delicious…octopus, stews, soups, appetizers, cheeses, ice creams, all sorts of desserts, all sorts of meats, drinks and so forth through 100 restaurants! We were stuffed by the time it was over, even though each plate from a vendor was very small. There was a fixed price for the whole event, so you could try every chef’s creation if you wanted to. We found Mallory from Sweet Grass Dairy, whom we had met at the Atlanta Cheese Festival, and she gave us some of their wonderful cheese to take home to our hosts the Masseys. That was amazing cheese, and it was great to see Mallory again.

I’m sure we will return to Serenbe for this event again next year. It just seems better and better each year! I considered it the beginning of my birthday celebration!

Forest Creature Reunion

Yesterday, I had another fantastic experience. While Peter was home playing host to the MOVERS who were bringing our stuff to our new townhome in Decatur (3 cheers for the MOVERS AND PETER), I met 10 of my high school friends to attend the Cobb Energy Center’s Rockette’s Christmas! It was unbelievable! We could not believe the talent up on that stage. Someone said that the group practiced 6-8 hours a day for the last 3 weeks before a show! Wow! You could tell! They were like watching one person perform.! WOW!

This group of friends gets together a few times each year, and we always have such a great time. It was so good to see all of you!

Ciao!

GETTING CAUGHT UP!

Lunch with June!

June and I had such a lovely time at lunch in Carrollton when she was there to help with her sister after surgery. It was SO good to spend some time with you, June; and thanks for bringing us some great Wisconsin cheeses!

Beautiful Fall Leaves

The Fall leaves are outstanding near the Massey’s house, especially the maples…all bright red!

Serenbe is a Favorite Place

Peter and I attended an Afternoon in the Countryside recently. Those pictures will come later, but right now, I though you would enjoy a few of the sites around Serenbe! We really enjoy that place, and these are some of the reasons!

Happy Birthday to Me!

We were so pleased to be invited to go out to dinner with Nick and Amanda. We decided on Decatur’s Iberian Pig restaurant. The food was fabulous, and I particularly liked the ear warmers, Nick! Don’t get too used to them, Amanda, but they do look very cute on you! We will definitely go back to the Iberian Pig again!

Our Thanks to Jennifer and Fred!

Tonight is our last homeless night at the Massey’s resort. Tomorrow is moving day! We are so appreciative to our dear friends for opening their hearts and home for us to stay while we were “homeless!” You’re the BEST, Jennifer and Fred.

Love to all,

Colleen

Halloween 2013/Renovations/New Restaurants Zeal & Kimball House

US Journal

Trick or Treat…in an interesting way!

You’ll see very special pictures of Hugo and cousin Zach that I love!

I also have a very special story that happened as I was coming home from the “baby Kroger” in Decatur (very appropriately named. As I was told when I asked someone directions on the street, “All the stores are smaller here in the city!”) . As I approached our garage, there were about 8 little kids dressed to go Trick or Treating. The smallest one…maybe 2 years old… approached me with her hands out, and went straight for my package of… toilet tissue, which of course I gave her for Halloween. Her mom was very pleased with her, but I was immediately concerned about the workers and family who were renovating our new townhome. So, I took an apple out of my grocery sack and offered it to the little girl in exchange for the toilet tissue. She readily agreed to a yummy apple and walked away happy after she dropped the toilet tissue on the pavement. Needless to say, the adults all around howled with laughter!

Renovations

As you see, we’re making great progress on the renovations on our house. The deck has been replaced. The front porch has been shored up and painted. Hardwood flooring was installed, stained and sealed for the 1st time (2 more days to complete that!). Lots of other painting is being done today. Tile will be put down next week. We have had to delay our move until Saturday, Nov. 9th, but it sure will be nice to have almost all finished. Stairwell carpets will be installed after the move.

Restaurant Fun at Kimball House and Zeal!

We have decided that the new restaurants in the area are open in our honor. We thoroughly enjoyed the East Cobb restaurant of Zeal with Karen and Hans, only to find out that one of the owners went to high school with their son Josh! That was a treat to meet him. Great suggestion, Karen and Hans!

Another evening, we met the Parisis at Kimball House in Decatur, and our server Tyler added to make the evening wonderful – delicious food and super company! I’m so glad we could christen that new place together, Linda and Paul!
