Building a Storage Shed at the Morichs
What fun we had! When we arrived at Victoria’s and Kyle’s,
there was a leveled out place in the backyard behind the carport, which had a
floor on it. There were all sorts of building materials all over the carport
and tools on the ground around the floor. Victoria had a set of plans in her
hand and was handily giving orders to the rest of us.
Most of my work included throwing away trash, fetching
tools, folding up huge boxes for the garbage bin, and holding the ladder for
Kyle to keep the roof shingles in place while Peter and Victoria screwed them
in place. The others just listened for Victoria to read out the next
directions, with Kyle’s occasional assistance in interpretation. She was a pro
at understanding and giving directions. I called her “Boss.”
Peter said he felt like he was back in Italy putting
together the IKEA “toys” that we got for use while we were there. I’m sure he
misses those days! J
We got all the walls, doors and roof in place before it got
too dark to work. They thought they could finish the rest of the work by
themselves tomorrow, so we went in to enjoy the chicken, quinoa, vegetable salads
dinner we brought, and Victoria topped it off with a delightful chocolate cake.
It was perfect payment for the fun of working together on a worthwhile project
with family.
Thanks for sharing your task with us, Kyle and Victoria. And,
thank you for all you’ve done for us in our recent homelessness!
Love, Colleen
