SUN DOG FARM POTLUCK
Being invited to a farm potluck doesn’t always mean a lovely
weekend in the mountains, but this time it did. Peter and I went to Brasstown
Valley Resort for the weekend, with a special dinner planned on Saturday
evening. It was a special time together for us.
Our good friends Lauren and Luca are members of an
organization for young farmers, and they invited us to attend the organization’s
potluck supper at Sun Dog Farm just over the Georgia line in North Carolina. Darby
and Elliot, the owners of the farm, have worked hard to revitalize the farm,
which had been used to plant the same one crop for many years. You could tell
it was now well tended.
Chef Terry Koval from the Wrecking Bar in Little 5 Points in
Atlanta roasted a pig and added a tomato dish to the potluck! Delicious! We
have recently learned that he is highlighted in Decatur’s Farm Burger Restaurant’s
picture in Lexicon of Sustainability founder Douglas Gayeton’s new book Local.
We’re proud of you, Chef Terry! Bravo!
The people, the farm and the food were all delightful.
Thanks for the invitation, Lauren and Luca!
Colleen
