SUPPER INVITATION TO SARA AND FRANCESCO
(A few extra pictures for you!)
Peter and Francesco were 2 of only
3 men in their university cohort this year, so we invited Francesco and his
girlfriend Sara to join us for a meal tonight. Daniel, the other man in their
cohort was out of town.
Sara had been on stage (long field
trip) in Spain last week, and came in late to our Saturday Supper with a
package of Spanish sausage and crackers that she left at our house. We really
thought she meant to take them home, but when we offered it back to her, she
just told us to save it for the Sunday Supper this weekend. We’ll be glad to do
that!
Sara’s salad of radicchio, goat
cheese and thinly sliced apples was a big hit. It went really well with Peter’s
tajarin pasta with ragu, too. We were glad to have a small taste of a Sacher
Torte for dessert, wishing for more, but knowing that none of us needed any
more of that yummy chocolate cake. Ahhhhh! Delicious!
We have not spent much time with
both Francesco and Sara, and we enjoyed very much getting a chance to catch up
with them. Sara has applied for dual citizenship in Italy (already has US)
because of her Italian grandfather. She is very proud of that heritage, and is
looking forward to being “legal” in both countries.
Sara’s class is soon to start their
internships, and she is going through what many of Peter’s classmates
did…trying to decide what to do for her internship. She is very interested in
meats and the idea of traveling slaughter trailors in semi tractor trailors,
rather than having to move the animals to a slaughterhouse. Her philosophy
included concern for the animals, as well as time and money saving for the
farmers, which translates into money saving for the consumer. She’s getting
some leads on this process. It will be interesting to hear how her internship
turns out.
Francesco’s internship is very
interesting, too. He is working with Slow Food, preparing for FISH, the huge
festival in Genoa where everything fishy is brought, made, sold, and consumed
by producers and consumers from all over the world. The dates are in early May,
and Francesco will be part of the team that will be responsible for all details
to be taken care of, even down to where to put a refrigerator. He’s excited
about this opportunity. I’m sure he will do well.
Thank you, Sara and Francesco. We
really enjoyed our visit with you. Colleen
