Fran’s Retirement
Party
After church today, Peter and I helped set up and prepare
food for the retirement party for our friend Fran. The parish hall looked
beautiful, and over 140 people were expected, so we set out 9 round tables
around the perimeter for seating (one for the cake). Then, we put out 5
rectangular tables down the middle and across the back for serving drinks and
the food. The tables each had white linen table clothes and flowers for
decoration. People brought in tuna salad, chicken salad, bell peppers with
hummus, meatballs, deviled eggs, watermelon with parsley and cantaloupe wrapped
in prosciutto. It was a delicious lunch for me, even though the party was from
2-5. We were working so hard to get it all set up that we had no time to eat
until the party began.
Several people who attended this celebration asked Peter and
me about our next plans, and 2 couples even asked to be put on the tour list when
they heard Peter talk about the ideas he had for making our tours in Italy to
be focused on visiting producers, small groups, fun activities,
community-filled and full of delicious foods. We get excited every time we talk
about it with anyone, too.
Ginny and Scott (She was a student in a school where I
taught “a few” years ago!) told us they were still enjoying remembering their
visit to Naples and hoped to make their next visit to Italy in the Cinque Terra,
further up the west coast of Italy. We had ideas and suggestions for them about
this new trip, so Peter suggested that they come over for dinner one night, and
they can see some of our pictures and hear our thoughts about Cinque Terra.
They thought that was a splendid idea. We will definitely make that happen in the
near future.
Congratulations on your retirement (and your birthday
today!), Fran. We enjoyed your party very much!
Colleen
