Ah, Camogli!
Our time spent in Camogli went by all too fast! Gina and
Giordano welcomed us into their home that rested 300 yards high up on the steep
side of a mountain, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea…and Camogli! Pepino the 1-year-old
castaway dog and the cats also gave us a warm welcome.
The weather was not stellar. The warm winds from Africa met
the cooler air to make torrential rains. We heard about creeks turning into
rivers, beaches being covered over entirely by the sea, bottom floors of tall
houses being washed away, schools being damaged and some children killed
because the teachers herded them to the basement to misunderstood “safety,”
roads closed to any traffic, landslides and washed out bridges.
We discovered that Gina and Giordano’s house, isolated (1/4
mile walk down 400 steps from the nearest road) and overlooking the
Mediterranean, was a perfect setting to reconnect with good friends, eat and
drink to our hearts’ content, find our beds easily and have a relaxing weekend.
The skies settled somewhat on Saturday afternoon, and we walked the ½ mile to
Nonna Nina’s Restaurant for an absolutely delightful dinner there at one of our
favorite restaurants in this area.
Gina and Giordano, we enjoyed our visit with you soooooo
much! Hope to see you again soon!
Colleen
