Amazon Man!

Today, Amazon Man came to the rescue!!! My Italian tutor Sara asked me to order some books for me, and I offered to order some for another student at the same time. When I went to Amazon.it (See how clever I am!!!), I found one of the 4 books I needed, but I couldn’t find the other 3. So, what do I do when I can’t function in Italian in an Amazon order? I went next door to get Lisa, and she said, “I will send to you Amazon Man!” And sure enough, right after his coffee, Enzo appeared at the door. After some persistent questions on my part and Enzo’s getting-to-be-impatient-at-my-persistence response, the order was finalized without one of the books. Amazon didn’t have it available. Aha! That’s the reason I asked for help in the first place, I couldn’t find all of the books. But, I wasn’t confident enough to know that I was reading all that Italian correctly. I’ll have to give Enzo credit, though. He found two more books for my order than I had found. As he was finalizing the address, I looked at the receipt and said, “Ok, 46 euros for 3 books. That’s right!” Then, Enzo looked shocked and replied, “What? Only 3 bucks!” We laughed a long time when he realized that he had heard BUCKS when I said BOOKS. He’s been learning English too long to even know that “bucks“ is a word for money! Thank you, Enzo! As usual, you have saved the day!

Then, there was Sunday Supper! At noon, there were to be 12. By 5:30, there were 20…then17…then 19…then 16 showed up, and 4 more came later. Che bella!

We had such a good time, and what great food - homemade pesto lasagna (Set up a date for a lasagna training session, Enzo!); delicious cake made with chocolate, olive oil, and rosemary; cole slaw; drunken chicken on thin slices of zucchini, rice with a wonderful meat sauce; cherry cobbler; baked peaches with gelato; roasted chicken; a mushroom/onion mixture that was super; 20 year old dessert wine and a mixture of other wines; and so many others. I wish I had taken a picture of the table. It was so lovely and yummy! As always, “and a good time was had by all!” Four of the group had had birthdays recently, so we acknowledged their passage to a new age, too. There were only about 5 of Peter’s cohort  of 25 that did not attend. I’m always amazed at how cohesive that group has grown to be.

Cristina was the main cleaner upper, but lots of people helped to gather things up, move furniture back where it belonged, and generally put everything where it could be addressed easily when it was time to go home. We won’t have another Sunday Supper until September or October because of the summer break that starts next weekend, Peter’s stage to Puglia in September, our trip to Atlanta in September, and a stage to Scotland in early October. We’ll get back to it after that, though. We’re already looking forward to getting caught back up with each other.

Thanks for a lovely evening,

Colleen
