Dogliani Goodies!
Dogliani’s street market on Saturdays (except Christmas ‘til
Easter – too cold) is a favorite date for Peter and me. Today, we found
Cristina (one of Peter’s classmates) there, too, and it was good to get caught
up with her a little. She had ridden her bike there (about 10 miles) and was
visiting one of the vendors, whose grandmother had been one of the people
Cristina interviewed for her major project. It’s always good to see Cristina,
and we made plans to walk together tomorrow morning. She and Monica used to run
at 6:30 every morning, so I hope she thinks that 8 or 9AM is still pretty
early. She has readings to do for the classes this week, and she wants to come
to our Sunday Supper tomorrow night, so she wants to go walking early.
We have picked our regular vendors at Dogliani (“DOH lee ah
nee”), so we shop pretty quickly there. The integrali 4 grain bread had to take
the place of girasole bread because the sunflowers are out of season now. It
will be good, but I do love that pane girasole!
The sweets lady convinced us that we needed 3 of the small
nociolla (nut) cakes for our 25 guests coming for Sunday Supper tomorrow. As I
edit this, we’re up to 28 now. The more, the merrier! The sweets lady also had
some baci tiny sandwich cookies made with nociolla flour and a layer of
chocolate in the middle. We got two of those for our next guests. Anna from
Casa Matilda had some great natural juices and appetizer spreads that we
thought would be nice for Sunday Supper. The cheese maker had Robiolla, which
we can’t always find, so we got that for tomorrow, too. Last, but not least,
salami were a must – flavored with nociolla, pepperincini, and fennel. He’ll
save us some cinghali salami for when we return next weekend.
Looks like we’ll eat well tomorrow! Thanks, all you nice
people at Dogliani.
Colleen
