Nina’s Documentary
Nina is an American friend of Sarah, who is in Peter’s
cohort. She is with Sarah visiting this week, so while Sarah was in class
today, we went on an excursion.
What a lovely day Nina and I had today. We first went to
Mara and Valerio’s fresh pasta shop to get 2 kinds of ravioli for the 16 people
coming for the Dinner Society dinner tonight.
Then, she was glad to find her chariot waiting, as Sarah doesn’t have a
car here. They have been going places on buses and trains, but this was nice for
her. We took off for Cherasco in search for great dark chocolate with
nocciolla!!! We found that and so much more.
Cherasco is only 6km away, and we immediately found it very
crowded. Today was their street market. A scarf, sweater and Barolo chocolates
later, we moved on to find a great chocolate shop that had the specific
chocolates we were searching…dark chocolate on nocciolla (hazelnuts)…YUM! It
has been June since those delicious treats have been available. The chocolate
makers don’t make them in the summer because it gets hot, and they melt. (no
a.c.) We were thrilled at our find!
By then it was time for lunch, and I had make reservations
for us at La Torre (the tower). “Mr. Bean” (Honest! He looks and acts just like
Mr. Bean!) did his own version of explaining the menu, and we decided to share
a huge insalata mista, each get our own Barolo risotto, and share lamb/mashed
potatoes/green beans. Great choices all around, as we were both delighted with
the flavors that were added to the meal.
The day was completed with an affogato (gelato with coffee
poured over it!) back in Bra at Caffe Vittorio just a block from our house.
Thanks, Nina, for sharing your day with me. I had so much
fun!
Colleen
