TORINO WITH JOAN AND
JIM
They’re here!
Jim and Joan have finally made it to Torino! We met them at
the airport and went to our hotel…Best Western of Genova…to get checked in. It’s
a great hotel, and everyone is extremely helpful. I asked in Italian where
Peter should park the car. The man at the desk immediately replied in perfect
English, “Where is your car now?”
After getting settled into our rooms, we all took off to see
the Egyptian Museum…second only to the one in Cairo, Egypt! It was most
interesting, and we spent about 2 hours looking at everything there. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting
Torino.
Any time we came across a church, we went inside. There were
many beautiful churches, and the Duomo (the main church of this diocese) was
especially magnificent. We remembered the tower that was next to the
duomo…fantastic!
A warm coffee (yes, decaf for me!) during the day started
our tasting frenzy. We had prociutto and
special bread crackers at Eataly that we called lunch. Then, the chocolate
tasting at Guido Gobino consisted of each of us choosing a tasting plate of
about 8 different pieces of chocolate of one type – dark chocolate, hazelnut,
spicey, or granache. As we walked around Torino in between tastings, we enjoyed
seeing the crazily decorated ancient entrance to the city and a HUGE nativity
calendar that was at least 35 feet tall! It was truly an inspiring sight!
Afterwards, we found a café we remembered and had some drinks and snacks, then
went off to dinner at Dai Seleta. They remembered Peter from when we were there
before, and the meal was super enjoyable. We always try to end up there for a
meal every time we go to Torino.
We’ll be back in Torino to spend the night near the airport
before Jim and Joan and I take a plane to the States on Friday. It’s a great city!
Hope everyone has a wonderful New Year!
Colleen
