SNOW!
We woke up this morning to an inch or 2 of snow on the ground.
It was still drifting down but quit by 10a.m. Everybody was all excited about
it, though. This was the first snow of the season for Bra. I hear we should
expect more snow, but usually it is not very deep and doesn’t last long on the
roads and sidewalks.
CHEF MAYA’S LUNCH
Today was a red-letter day for me. I was invited to Maya’s
house for lunch. Maya is one of the Student Chefs that Carlo Petrini mentioned
earlier in the week. She and 2 other students will be in charge of the meal
program for the students next year. So, it was very special for me to get to
taste her real Brazilian lunch. Plus, she is a wonderful friend! We have had
several occasions over this year when Maya was involved. We always have such a
good time, and I’m so pleased that she will be here during the next 3 months
when most of the students will be away on their internships. As you can see in
the pictures, we had a meal that consisted of something that translated as “Horseback
Rider.” That turned out to be a wonderful piece of beef, “ridden” by a poached
egg! Then there was rice with black beans, as well as a tomato/cucumber salad
that completed this well-known Brazilian lunch. Maya told us (We were happy
that Roberta joined us. She’s Brazilian, too.) that this lunch was very similar
to all lunches in Brazil – always rice with beans, some sort of salad and some
meat, usually with an egg on top. It was truly scrumptious!
Thanks, Maya, for a wonderful treat and for the Poinsettia!
I’ll take good care of it for you!
Colleen
