Puglia Dinner at the
Gastronomic Society
We picked up Ashley to give her a ride to the Gastronomic
Society tonight. It was too cold to walk the mile or so there. When we arrived,
we learned that 45 people were going to attend, and a mother from Puglia had
come to help prepare the meal. All of the ingredients were imported from
Puglia, so they needed authentic cooks. She did a great job, and Peter and I
gave her some nocciola and ciocolato from Piedmont to thank her. She seemed to
really appreciate the gift…so did her 7 year-old son!!
We saw lots of people we knew and quite a few that we had
not met yet at the event. It was good to make new friends and see the former
ones. The menu was all Pugliani, as you will see in the pictures, and we ate 3
hours, which has gotten to be pretty normal for special events here.
Afterwards, there were all sorts of plans to go other places
for getting together or dancing, etc.. Ashley walked home with some of her
friends, I was tired and went on home. Peter went across the street to Bar
Boglioni and talked with some of his classmates for a while before returning
home. Charlotte, who is Scottish, was celebrating St. Andrew’s Day, and Peter
had promised her to come by and say hello. As it turned out, she and her
flatmate Francesco had gone to Ca del Re in Verduno for dinner and only
returned as Peter was leaving to go home. Ah well, at least she knew he had
been there.
It seems there is always something to celebrate, which we
probably should pay attention to ourselves… what do you think?
Ciao!
Colleen
