Cherasco Antique
Market
The main road into Cherasco was blocked, and 20 minutes
later, I finally found a parking spot. The Street Market in Cherasco, where
Sara was selling her great handsewn goods, mostly had antiques of all kinds –
bicycles, furniture, jewelry, clothes, cookware, dishes, flatware, toys, books,
etc. I can’t even imagine anything that wasn’t there. I resisted the sign
directing me to Riccardi’s Cioccolato Shop, but just barely! The market covered
the entire town of Cherasco. It was so interesting to see everything, and the
crowds were all over. I wished for all of our children when I saw the man who
had balloons reaching to the sky!
I saw several dogs at the market…very wellbehaved. I
couldn’t resist taking pictures of them for this journal.
After 3 phone calls, I finally found Sara and was so pleased
that Lucia (1- “loo CHEE uh’), Leonardo – “Leo” (3 - pronounced “LAY-o”) and
her husband Fabri were with her. She told Leo that I was there, and he asked
her if I were still dressed like a pirate. I wished for my red scarf! Lucia was
getting tired, and was crying in her mother’s arms until Sara produced a
lollipop for both of them. Then, amazingly, the tears stopped immediately!
Whatever works, right?
It was so good to meet Fabri finally, and I enjoyed the time
that we talked. I was surprised that they were expecting Peter and me to both
be there and to spend a good part of the day at the market. I didn’t understand
that, and I was disappointed that we missed spending more time with them.
Another day soon, I hope!
Sara and her friend had made some children’s items, and Sara
had done something special for me to give as gifts to some people I know. They
were so cute, but I didn’t expect her to give them to me without paying. She
insisted, and I have long since quit arguing with an Italian about being
generous. The ones I know love to share with their friends, especially Sara.
Thank you, Sara, for the amazing gifts! I had a wonderful
time today with you and your family in Cherasco today!!
Ciao!
Colleen
