TRIP TO CORREGGIO
There’s nothing like the first snow of the season to put
everyone in a cheerful mood! The drive to Correggio WITH BRAND NEW SNOW
TIRES…WHEW! JUST IN TIME!... today was full of wonderful pictures. Daniel had a
hay day with his great camera. I took a picture of him taking his 18,000th
photo since coming to Bra last March. Peter, Jess and I congratulated him on
his accomplishment.
They say it started snowing east of here at about 22,00
(10:00PM) last night. By the time we arrived at Trattoria de La Buca in the
late morning, there were 3-4 inches of snow on the ground; and as we went
further east, it got deeper and the temperature went down. Fortunately, the snow
had stopped, but -9 degrees Centigrade was the low during our trip to the Pig
Festival in Campagnola This Georgia girl
was ready for it EXCEPT for my feet. I definitely should have worn the hiking
boots I bought after I broke my wrist, but you live and learn, right?
Trattoria de La Buca is famous for it’s Culatelo di Zibello
(a very hard-to-find and thinly sliced pork delicacy), but every dish we have
ever tried there is unusual and exceptional. We were surprised when Kelly and
Antonio showed up there to have lunch with us. I guess Peter told them we would
be there, and Kelly had been there before and knew how good it was. We all
basically got as many different dishes as we could and passed them around for
everyone to have a taste of everything that was ordered. What a delightful meal
with delightful friends, and to make it even more special, Luca took us into
the cave in the basement where wines, meats and cheeses are cured and stored.
Thanks, Luca. We enjoyed our time with you.
We only went as far as Correggio on Saturday night. What a
sweet town! There were 2 more cars of students that went, too. We met in
Correggio for a walk (no drunk drivers here!) to nearby Dada Brewery, where we
had a tour of the production facility and tasted some of their beers. By then
it was dark, cold and time for dinner, so we walked to the restaurant La
Osteria to have a grand meal. They were ready for us and immediately gave each
of us a very small glass of sangria to warm us up after our walk in the cold.
Then, Francesco ordered a fixed price meal for all of us (about 15), and we ate
well and ate hearty. Great fun!
Ciao!
Colleen
