Nativity Pageant
What a treat we had today! One of the undergraduate students
Justin invited us to go with him to his church in Torino (Turin), the
International Church of Torino. It is a Christian church, and the highlight of
the service today was the nativity pageant that was set with present day
suggestions. The innkeeper checked Mary and Joseph’s bags for explosives,
liquids, scissors and belts; and they were required to turn off all cell phones
so they wouldn’t disturb the other visitors. The important message was, of
course, one we knew well...the wonderful birth of the Christ child! We enjoyed
very much all of the singing and acting from the preschoolers through maybe 5th
graders. The added bonus was that the sermon was in English, with an Italian
translator. Peter decided that’s the best way for him to learn Italian –say it
in English, then say it in Italian. Makes sense to me! Even though the
children’s pageant was all in Italian, we knew the story very well and didn’t
miss anything (especially with a bulletin with the English translation of the
pageant!), Thank you, Justin, for your kind invitation. It was a very special
service for us.
Dinner at Sarah's
We were sorry to have had to refuse Enzo and Lisa’s
invitation to host a Sunday Supper this evening, but it was for a good cause.
Sarah, in Peter’s cohort, had invited us to dinner at her house with her and
her 2 roommates, S.J. and Elizabeth. The meal was absolutely fantastic, with
aperitivo, pasta, veal with veggies and nut cakes for dessert. We knew Sarah’s
roommates well, and all of us had a great time telling stories and laughing
about the funny things that have happened this year. S.J. and Elizabeth are not
in Peter’s cohort, so they will still be in Bra throughout our time here in
March. We agreed that Sunday Suppers will continue. Thank you, Sarah, for your
sweet invitation. We had a marvelous time with all of you and your yummy meal!
And thanks for the invitation, Lisa and Enzo, let’s please
do it another time!
Felice Natale!
Colleen
