Last Sunday Supper
for FC8
Peter insisted, and he was right! This Sunday Supper would
be the last one we ever have when almost everyone (Kimberly left a few weeks
ago to address a medical emergency) in his cohort is still in Bra. Peter
insisted that we have a closed invitation…only those in his cohort were
invited. AND EVERYONE CAME! Even Kimberly, who is in the States, Skyped in
while everyone was here. The evening was perfect!
Peter made a scrumptious roast wrapped in bacon and roasted
potatoes and other veggies. Others brought dishes that were irresistible – Leeann’s
beautiful fruit crostata decorated as a clock; Nicole and Sarah’s wonderful
cabbage dish and sweet miniature Christmas Poinsettia in a Christmas mug; Megan’s
grandmother’s unforgettable layered meatloaf; Daniel’s signature Asian spiced
chicken; Kendall’s mouth-watering chocolate cake with caramel icing; Kelly,
Maya and Roberta’s how-could-it-miss veggie lasagna; Martina’s so deliciously
unique celeriac and apple soup; Theo’s unbelievably tasty panacotta (especially
good on Kendall’s chocolate cake!); Karin’s wonderful potato soup and specialized
delicious cheesecake with FC8 written on top in gingerbread dots; Jeanette and
Nathalie’s yummy polenta with mushrooms and cheese on top; Cristina’s wonderful
old-fashioned veggie soup; Ophelia’s delightful curry rice; Charlotte’s
to-die-for crumbly onion tart; Francesco’s bottle of wine (late! He’s in
love!); Maia, Ana, Kara, Jess and Shona’s contributions of delicious peanut
butter/chocolate cookies, yummy cornbread with lardo on top and other yummies
that I didn’t get to see who brought them (sorry!).
Kimberly had gotten a chance to say something special to the
group during our Skype earlier and to let them know that Cristina has gifts for
all of them (WOW! Kimberly, everyone said to say thank you so much!). After
dinner, several people wanted to talk and/or contribute their talents to
entertain the group. We were sad to hear
that Kendall’s grandfather has had some strokes recently, and she is leaving
for Vancouver tomorrow morning. We were so glad that she had been able to
attend this function. She also contributed some fascinating dancing later in
the evening with some other friends. In
addition, Charlotte sang endearingly, “I’ll Be Seeing You.” Martina responded to the demand for some opera
with her beautiful voice. (I really wanted her to let me lip sinc her voice as
a joke, but we never worked it out. Don’t you think that would have
been…special?) Jess danced and sang to overwhelming applause. She was really
enjoying herself, and we did, too. Maya, Roberta and Martina (I think that was
the outstanding trio) danced and sang. Megan
did an amazingly realistic Shania Twain impersonation with song and dance. You
go, girl! Then, Francesco (who cannot be blamed because he is in love!) broke a
wine glass that scattered everywhere, and the party ended with all sorts of
kidding, hugs, well-wishes and Christmas/Hanukkah greetings.
Thank you all for joining Peter and me for Sunday Suppers
this year, but especially for this last one. I’ve had a blast playing hostess
to this VERY TALENTED, CREATIVE BEYOND BELIEF, FUN-LOVING, SINCERE, ENVELOPING,
SMART, ENERGIZED, FRIENDLY AND LOVING group of students. I will never forget
you. My love to all of you! Baci e abbracci!
Colleen
