A DAY WITH NAVIA AND NICK

US Journal
Sunday-Wed., May 5-8, 2013

 Happy Cinco di Mayo!

I finished my application to receive Social Security benefits. For those of you who don’t live in the US, I have paid into the U.S. Social Security fund my whole life, and now I have retired and have enough credits to start receiving benefits from them. I will receive a check monthly until my death. It’s about half of the amount of my retirement benefits from working in the schools, so I’m very pleased and am feeling quite wealthy!!! If you knew the real amounts, you would laugh heartily at that comment!!! Every little bit helps, though.

We’re going to open a swimming pool in our house if we get any more rain in our basement! This rain is relentless, and has been a challenge for 4 days. We missed church, a Cinco de Mayo lunch with Tom and Beth, a visit to Montara Falls Retreat in North Georgia, and a visit to our favorite Storico Fresco Pasta Shop because we had to change the towels and shop vac every 2 or so hours. At it’s worst, I was drying 12 loads of towels in one day! Today (Wednesday), we have finally seen the sun, and our basement is dry again. It was good impetus to get rid of things in the basement, so we’re taking a load to donate at MUST ministries every few days. Something good can come out of every bad situation, right?

A DAY WITH NAVIA AND NICK

I couldn’t have had a better time than I had today playing with Navia and Nick! Nick is on his break from his Physical Therapy Doctorate at Georgia State University, and Navia is on permanent break. She’s the cute-as-a-button Pointer puppy dog!

Nick and I took Nadia for a walk in Grant Park, only to have Nick chase her all around, trying to convince her to stay with us. We ended up at an outdoor table eating pizza before we went to a dog supply store for a new pinch collar that the dog trainer recommended for Navia. She’s a very smart little 8 month-old, and she immediately knew who was boss!

Thanks, Nick and Navia, for a wonderful visit! Let’s do it again soon!

Love, Mom (Nonna to you, Navia!)
