VICTORIA’S
IRRESISTIBLE INVITATION!
We’re thinking we should send Kyle away on a business trip
more often. Yesterday, we got an irresistible invitation from our sweet
daughter-in-law Victoria to come and have supper with her. We called it
Thursday Supper!!! AND, she INSISTED that we bring the things that Kyle has
been storing in our basement (the place in our house that we are trying to
empty) , as well as 2 rocking chairs and a big red wagon that’s in desperate
need of paint or at least cleaning.
Peter and I worked really hard to get 4+ boxes of Kyle’s
childhood memories and other items into the car, then we remembered that one of
the rocking chairs actually folds up. By putting that one against the backseat
and turning the other one face down, we were only lacking the red wagon. We had
to save that for a future trip…maybe the one where they come with a truck to
get the wine refrigerator!!! Yes, we are VERY serious about emptying our
basement!
Victoria asked Peter all about the things she found in
Kyle’s boxes…theater awards, scholastic awards, and all sorts of toys and
books. She had a good time learning about Kyle’s youth from the great stories
Peter could tell her. I know Kyle will appreciate knowing how much fun they
had!
The animals at their house were fun to be around…except
during supper, when Victoria banished them to a closed off room. Victoria
explained the cats go straight for the food if she leaves them out during a
meal. We could hear them even then, so I’m sure they could hear us, too. The
cats Frank and Claire (I told her that I went to high school with some people
named Frank and Claire who dated for years and got married!) were very
entertaining when Victoria brought out their food. One of them ran straight to
Victoria, smacked one of the bowls with it’s paw, then jumped up on an empty
countertop. Victoria had her orders to give that bowl to that cat. The other
cat stayed on the ground and was happy with her (his?) bowl there. Next time, I
will learn who was who. The dog Walker is such a happy puppy and loves being in
charge of those cats!
I had gone to Storico Fresco Pasta this morning to get Peter
some beautiful tagliatelle and ragu for our supper, and Victoria added a most
wonderfully unusual salad of greens, black olives and red peppers. It was a perfect dinner, and we celebrated
afterwards by taking Walker for a walk around the neighborhood.
By the way, Harldur, you will be glad to know that Victoria
LOVES that you insisted on calling her “Beautiful Victoria!” She felt very
honored!
Grazie mille, Victoria for your irresistible invitation!
