It was fun to wait at Villa Madrussa while Peter went back into town in Trento to get yet another map and to shop for some hiking shorts and shirts like Gene had (easy to wash and dry). We think we’re going to be doing some serious hiking to get to these far reaching malga farms.
This is a brand new experience for us. I feel like roving reporters. We want to make sure that we don’t interfere with the producers and workers on the farms, but we also want to get as much information as possible.
As soon as we arrived in Malgolo, where we will stay the next 4 nights at Albergo Nerina, we ate lunch with Sandro as our waiter. He had met Peter when he was on stage (field trip) here, and he was very excited about Peter being back and visiting the malga in this area. In between his hosting duties, Sandro brought maps and pamphlets. He and Peter met after siesta again, and Sandro was a big help in planning our next 3-4 days here. Sounds like a lot of big mountain hiking, meeting people who are passionate about making organic cheeses and tasting those cheeses. I texted Micah that he would really enjoy our nexr few days here. He wrote back that he knew he would because he loves cheese. Get on that plane, Micah!
We took a 3 mile hike ovet to Romeno and saw such lovely sites. Enjoy rhese pictures. I was surprised ro find walks all over Italy honoring
Biblical figures. We knew about the St James walk in Spain but not about all of these.
Sandro also invited us to a Slow Food community wine tasting event Friday night. Several prominent wine guys will introduce their favorite wines. It sounds like a fun event where we can meet some interesting people. Peter wants to keep his focus on visiting malga locations in Trentino, but this is going to be outside the malga workday, so we are making an exception and accepting Sandro’s invitation, even if it is only in Italian.
After a marvelous dinner, a lovely stroll around town in the late evening led us to a playground where several dads had gathered with their children to play. A precious little dark grey kitten adopted us as her playmates on a boulder in the park. When she saw us, she ran right up to us. We were hooked. We played with her there for a long time. She was soooo cute. She spoke English very well, too.
Ciao, ciao, little kitty,
Nonna
