More Malgas - Juribello and Pletzn

Peter went by himself to Malga Juribello today. He found the path on the map, and the space from the parking lot to the malga was 30 minutes of treacherous hiking for Swan and me. I was fine staying at the villa. I enjoyed taking walks around the area, responding to many cool emails, and catching up on my Italian homework. The porch outside our room was delightful. I never get tired of watching the weather move through those impressive mountains.

Peter had a special day, in that a man he met when he came here on stage invited him to come to Malga di Juribello to watch him make the cheese there. However, Francesco had already finished when Peter got there. They had 10 minutes to talk before Francesco loaded up his station wagon with cheese and left. Che bella! At least Peter got to meet these guys in the picture!

Saturday and Sunday, August 11-12, 2012

Saturday was a day off for us. We missed breakfast, caught up on some sleep with new non-itching meds from the doc, spent the afternoon in Trento having a lovely lunch and buying me some sturdy hiking boots. It was a very well-deserved, relaxing day, which ended with pizza in our room and a slice off Villa Madruzza’s famous Sacher cioccolato torte. I’m trying to get them to give me the recipe for you pastry chefs out there, Stephen, Cecilia, Loridana, Arne, Rosanna, Monica, Enzo, and any others who want a scrumpdillyicious dessert.

Sunday looked like it was going to be cloudy and rain, so we left for Malga Pletzn prepared. I put on my new hiking boots to break them in, and we both had jackets and raingear. I guess that was the reason it turned sunny and warm!:)

We could drive the whole way, and the road was something our Porsch Thelma would have loved! We couldn’t even count the number of switchbacks! Great fun, and lunch at the malga had a definite German flair – steak, polenta, sauerkraut  and pinto-type beans, then panna cotta and  a cake layered with blueberry jam for dessert. We have to eat the local food when we go out places…it’s the rule! Yum!

Ciao, ciao!
